The ATC honing head enables honing processing on a machining center that has an operating shaft, and various processes such as honing and drilling can be integrated in a single unit of equipment.
For example, in the bore hole machining of a block, the same equipment can be used for boring and honing in the previous process, eliminating the need to install new equipment and contributing to “investment reduction”.
Also, ATC can easily handle workpieces with different machining diameters, enabling “high-mix multi-product” production.

“Current status and challenges”

  • Due to product functionality, honing the bore hole in a block requires strict accuracy in diameter dimension, coaxiality, and roundness. Therefore, it is necessary to measure the diameter of the workpiece and expand the whetstone for machining, and it is common to use a honing machine with operating shaft.
  • However, the introduction of a honing machine requires a large investment in equipment and floor space.

  • The ATC type honing head has realized honing processing on a machining center by applying the technology cultivated in the honing head for conventional honing machines and by stabilizing the rotation axis in the internal mechanism.
