The GHI series reamers for cast iron and steel achieve excellent roundness and surface roughness due to the optimised unequal division of the 6 cutting edges. Highly efficient machining at high feed rates contributes to shorter cycle times.
In addition to the standard version, the line-up includes Type T for thin-wall machining and Type R for through-hole machining.

Development / product concept

“Current status and challenges”

  • There was a need for finishing reamers capable of high-efficiency machining, but conventional multi-flute reamers were problematic because of their roundness and surface roughness sometimes deteriorated at high feed rates

“Development points”

  • The GHI series has an optimised unequal division of the cutting edge, which significantly improves roundness. The number of cutting edges is set to six, with a back taper suitable for high feed rates, to achieve improved surface roughness.
    Furthermore, the multi-layer coating contributes to lower tooling costs by extending tool life.
