QEC Cubic is a tool observation stand that enables easy, quick, and accurate observation of tool cutting edge conditions. By narrowing down the functions to those necessary for tool observation, “simplified operation”, “reduced investment”, and “space saving” are realized. Furthermore, it is lightweight by utilizing a 3D printer, and can be “carried” and “protected from measurement objects” for ease of use.

Development / product concept
“Current status and challenges”
In addition to the use of stereo microscopes, etc., for observation of tool wear, etc., expensive devices such as optical measuring instruments are required to measure the numerical values of the amount of wear. Besides, since optical measuring instruments are large and not easily portable, installation space is limited and installation sites must be carefully considered.
In tool observation, there was a need for a simple and inexpensive device that could easily observe the shape and wear condition of the cutting edge.
“Development points”
“QEC Cubic” has been developed by reducing the number of functions to those required for tool observation:
easy to operate (Quick) and
reduces investment costs (Economic),
compact + portable (carriable) + and it realizes resource- and energy-saving (carbon neutral) tool edge observation.

Observation example
Chisel face: easy and convenient obersvation of chisel wear state
Rake face: by finely adjusting the angle of the tool stand, you can observe wear on the surface in detail
Flank face: pinpoint oservation of
rake face wear by
rotating the tool and
rotating the tool stand
